Tamil Nadu IPS Reshuffle: A Arun Appointed DVAC Chief, T S Anbu Takes Over as ADGP Law and Order
Tamil Nadu government on Monday carried out a significant reshuffle involving senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, issuing transfer and posting orders for three top officials with immediate effect. The appointments were announced through an official notification issued by the state Home Department.
The latest administrative changes involve key positions in the state police hierarchy, including the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Law and Order, and Police Administration. Officials said the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and ensuring continuity in critical policing functions across the state.
One of the most notable appointments in the reshuffle is that of A Arun, who has been posted as Additional Director General of Police and Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Chennai.
Before this appointment, A Arun had been placed on compulsory wait. To facilitate his posting, the Tamil Nadu government downgraded the vacant post of Director General of Police and Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. With this assignment, he will now head the state’s premier anti-corruption agency responsible for investigating corruption-related cases involving public servants and government officials.
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability within the administrative system. The appointment of a senior IPS officer to the post is considered important given the sensitive nature of investigations handled by the department.
In another major development, Dr Maheshwar Dayal has been transferred from the post of Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Chennai, and posted as Additional Director General of Police, Administration.
The state government issued the appointment order by downgrading the vacant post of Director General of Police (Administration). Dr Dayal had been overseeing one of the most crucial policing wings in the state, responsible for maintaining law and order, handling security coordination, and supervising policing operations across Tamil Nadu.
Administrative officials stated that his transfer to the Administration wing is expected to strengthen internal police management and organizational functioning within the department.
Meanwhile, T S Anbu has been appointed as Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Chennai. Like A Arun, T S Anbu had also been on compulsory wait before receiving the new assignment.
He replaces Dr Maheshwar Dayal in the highly significant Law and Order post, which is regarded as one of the most sensitive assignments in the Tamil Nadu Police setup. The position involves supervision of statewide policing operations, crowd management, security preparedness, crime monitoring, and coordination during major public events and emergencies.
Officials said the latest transfers are part of the government’s regular administrative exercise aimed at optimizing leadership responsibilities within the police force. Such reshuffles are often undertaken to ensure experienced officers are deployed in strategically important positions based on operational requirements and governance priorities.
The Tamil Nadu Police, one of the country’s largest state police forces, frequently witnesses administrative restructuring at senior levels to maintain effective command and strengthen law enforcement mechanisms across different wings of the department.
The latest appointments come at a time when the state government continues to focus on administrative efficiency, vigilance oversight, and strengthening public order management through experienced leadership in key policing positions.
