North Tripura Gets 12.5 Central Force Companies Ahead of TTAADC Village Committee Polls
Tripura State Election Commissioner Dr P. K. Chakraborty and officiating DGP G. S. Rao reviewed election preparedness, polling logistics and security arrangements in North Tripura ahead of the September 28 TTAADC Village Committee elections.
Dharmanagar: With the September 28 elections to the Village Committees of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) approaching, the Tripura administration has intensified its preparations, particularly in areas where difficult terrain, poor road connectivity and limited mobile networks could pose operational challenges.
Tripura State Election Commissioner Dr P. K. Chakraborty and officiating Director General of Police G. S. Rao, IPS (1999 batch, Tripura cadre), reviewed the overall election preparedness and security arrangements in North Tripura on Thursday. The meeting took place at the office of the District Magistrate and Collector in Dharmanagar and brought together senior officials from the district administration, police and election machinery.
Among those present were North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, IPS (2019 batch, Tripura cadre), along with election officials, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers and Sub-Divisional Police Officers. The discussions covered both the logistical side of polling and the security arrangements required to ensure the smooth conduct of voting and the subsequent return of polling teams and election materials.
Polling Logistics and Movement of Teams Reviewed
A major part of the review focused on the movement of polling personnel and election materials. Officials briefed the State Election Commission about the arrangements for dispatching polling teams from designated dispatch centres to their respective polling stations.
The movement plan is particularly important in North Tripura because some polling stations are located in remote and interior areas. Officials discussed the distribution of election materials, arrangements at polling stations and the procedures for bringing polling teams and election materials back to receiving centres after voting concludes.
The administration is also keeping a close watch on local logistical difficulties that could affect election-day operations. Rainfall has created concerns in some areas because poor road conditions may slow down the movement of polling and security personnel. Limited mobile connectivity at certain locations is another issue, as it could complicate communication between polling stations, control centres and field officials.
These factors have therefore been incorporated into the wider preparedness exercise so that polling teams can reach their assigned locations and return safely after the voting process.
Security Deployment Under Close Watch
Security arrangements were another key focus of the meeting. Officials reviewed the deployment of security forces, area domination exercises, patrolling arrangements and security at polling stations.
The authorities also examined the arrangements for monitoring the situation on polling day. The objective is to maintain a visible security presence in sensitive and vulnerable areas while ensuring that polling personnel can carry out their duties without disruption.
Dr P. K. Chakraborty said the State Election Commission was satisfied with the preparations made so far. He also expressed confidence that the elections would be conducted in a free and peaceful manner.
The review is part of the Commission’s broader exercise to assess preparedness district by district before the TTAADC Village Committee elections.
74 Companies of Central Forces Available
Officiating DGP G. S. Rao said the security preparations in North Tripura were satisfactory, although he suggested some additional measures to further strengthen the arrangements.
Rao specifically drew attention to the operational difficulties that could arise in remote parts of the district. Several polling stations are situated away from major population centres, and the combination of difficult roads and weak mobile connectivity could make deployment and communication more challenging.
To address the wider security requirements of the election, a substantial central force deployment has been arranged.
As many as 74 companies of central armed police forces, including personnel from the CRPF, CAPFs, BSF, SSB and ITBP, have been made available for the Village Committee elections.
Of this deployment, approximately 12.5 companies have been allocated to North Tripura. The personnel have already begun deployment in the district and are being used for area domination and patrolling ahead of polling.
The deployment is intended not merely for polling-day security. Security personnel are expected to remain engaged throughout the election process, with arrangements continuing until the completion of counting.
Area Domination and Patrolling Already Underway
The early deployment of central forces allows security agencies to conduct area domination exercises before voting begins. Such exercises are aimed at establishing a visible security presence across polling areas and helping officials assess ground conditions before election day.
Patrolling is also being carried out in areas where the administration has identified logistical or security challenges. The presence of central forces is expected to supplement the existing state police machinery during the election period.
For North Tripura, where some polling locations are in interior areas, advance deployment also gives security teams an opportunity to familiarise themselves with routes and local conditions before polling personnel arrive.
The administration is expected to maintain coordination between the district police, central forces and election officials throughout the process.
TTAADC Village Committee Polls on September 28
The general election to the TTAADC Village Committees is scheduled to be held on September 28, 2026. Counting of votes has been scheduled for October 5, 2026.
The State Election Commission has been conducting reviews across districts as the polling date approaches. The objective is to ensure that polling stations, personnel, election materials, transport arrangements and security deployments are ready well in advance.
The scale of the security deployment underlines the importance attached to maintaining adequate security during the election process. With 74 companies of central armed police forces sanctioned for the polls, forces have been distributed across different areas based on local requirements.
North Tripura’s share of around 12.5 companies has already been deployed for area domination and patrolling, while district authorities continue to work on the remaining logistical arrangements.
10,889 Nominations Found Valid
The election preparations also include the scrutiny of nominations. Earlier, the State Election Commission announced that 10,889 nominations had been found valid after scrutiny.
The Commission had also confirmed the availability of 74 companies of central armed police forces for the elections.
With polling now only days away, the focus has shifted from the nomination and scrutiny stages to the final operational phase. Polling teams have to be moved to their assigned stations, election materials have to be distributed and returned after voting, and security arrangements have to remain operational throughout.
For North Tripura, the administration faces the additional task of managing difficult road conditions and communication gaps in some remote areas. The review chaired by the State Election Commissioner and officiating DGP was therefore significant in assessing whether these practical challenges had been adequately addressed.
With central forces already on the ground and district-level preparations under continuous review, the authorities are now working towards ensuring that polling on September 28 and the subsequent counting process on October 5 proceed according to schedule.
