UP Govt Transfers 38 IAS Officers; 8 Districts Get New DMs, Rinkoo Singh Rahee Finally Gets Posting
In a sweeping administrative reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has transferred 38 IAS officers, including the District Magistrates (DMs) of eight key districts. The late-night overhaul is being seen as a strategic move to strengthen governance and streamline district-level administration across the state.
Eight Districts Get New DMs
The reshuffle has brought new leadership to several districts:
Madhusudan Hulgi – DM, Deoria
Samuel Paul N. – DM, Jaunpur
Anand Vardhan – DM, Mau
Gaurav Singh Sogarwal – DM, Maharajganj
Santosh Kumar Sharma – DM, Firozabad
Rajendra Pensia – DM, Moradabad
Ankit Khandelwal – DM, Sambhal
Abhishek Pandey – DM, Pratapgarh
These appointments are expected to inject fresh energy into district administrations, particularly in areas facing governance challenges.
Rinkoo Singh Rahee Gets Posting After Controversy
Among the most notable developments, IAS officer Rinkoo Singh Rahee, who had earlier resigned in protest over prolonged inactivity and lack of responsibilities, has finally been given a posting. Rahee, a 2021-batch officer, has been appointed Joint Magistrate, Jalaun.
Rahee had withdrawn his resignation on April 27, 2026, after weeks of uncertainty. His new assignment marks a return to field responsibilities following months of controversy, including his attachment to the Revenue Board after a viral incident in Shahjahanpur where he was seen performing uthak-baithak during a lawyers’ protest.
Senior-Level Postings Across Departments
The reshuffle also impacted senior officers across various departments and development authorities:
Praful Kumar Sharma – Chief Development Officer (CDO), Lucknow
Anuj Singh – Special Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office
Shiv Sahay Awasthi – CEO, UP State Rural Road Development Authority
Abhinav Gopal – Vice-Chairman, Gorakhpur Development Authority
Ajay Jain – Municipal Commissioner, Gorakhpur
Alka Verma – Special Secretary (Finance) & Registrar, Firms, Chits and Societies
Additional postings include Nidhi Bansal as Director (Administration), Medical and Health Services; Praveen Mishra as Special Secretary, Social Welfare & Secretary, UP SC-ST Commission; and Nehal Jain as Managing Director, KESCO.
Action Against Officers
The reshuffle also carried disciplinary undertones. IAS officer Ramesh Ranjan, DM of Firozabad, was removed and transferred to the Revenue Board following allegations of misconduct, including accepting expensive gifts. Similarly, Divya Mittal, former DM of Deoria, was shifted to the Revenue Department amid reported opposition from local representatives.
Spotlight on Key Officers
Rajendra Pensia, now DM of Moradabad, earned recognition for anti-encroachment drives and identifying pilgrimage sites during his tenure in Sambhal.
Ankit Khandelwal, appointed DM of Sambhal, is known for his strict administrative style. As Municipal Commissioner of Agra, he halted payments worth ₹16 crore in the Water Works Department pending investigation, underscoring his anti-corruption stance.
Dr. Dinesh Chandra, former DM of Jaunpur, was moved to the Social Welfare Department after a tribunal flagged delays in a road accident case and ordered withholding of part of his salary.
Administrative Reset
This large-scale reshuffle reflects the government’s intent to reset administrative priorities, strengthen accountability, and ensure smoother governance across districts and departments. With new DMs in place and senior officers reassigned, the move signals a renewed focus on efficiency and transparency in Uttar Pradesh’s bureaucracy.
