In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, 2012-batch IAS officer Ashish Chauhan (Uttarakhand cadre) has been entrusted with dual responsibilities as the Chief Executive Officer of the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation and Development Authority (UCADA) and Director of the Sports Department.

Known for his proactive governance and people-centric approach, Chauhan’s appointment follows a series of successful tenures as District Magistrate in strategically important hill districts, including Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, and Pauri.

This move positions him at the helm of two high-profile departments currently in the public and administrative spotlight—civil aviation (amid recent helicopter accidents) and sports (following Uttarakhand’s successful hosting of the 38th National Games).

As DM of Pauri, Chauhan became known for his night visits to remote villages, holding direct public meetings to address grievances—an unusual practice for senior officers in the region.

Chauhan’s reappointment as CEO of UCADA comes at a critical juncture, as the department faces scrutiny following recent helicopter accidents in the state. Speaking to media, Chauhan stated:
