UPSC: Sujata Chaturvedi Appointed as Member

Senior IAS officer Sujata Chaturvedi, has been apointed as UPSC Member.

President of India has appointed Sujata Chaturvedi, the current Union Sports Secretary, as a Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) under Article 316(1) of the Constitution.

A 1989-batch Bihar-cadre IAS officer, Ms. Chaturvedi will join the UPSC just two months before her scheduled retirement on June 30, 2025, capping a distinguished three-decade career in the civil services.

A Career of Administrative Excellence

Before her role as Sports Secretary, Ms. Chaturvedi served as:

Additional Secretary (Establishment), DoPT – Overseeing civil services management

Principal Secretary (Finance), Bihar Government

Deputy Director General, UIDAI

Tenure & Regulations

As per Article 316(2) of the Constitution, her UPSC membership will last:

6 years from joining date or

Until she turns 65 (whichever is earlier)

Her service terms will follow the UPSC (Members) Regulations, 1969.
Strengthening India’s Premier Recruitment Body

The UPSC, headed by a Chairperson and comprising up to 10 Members, conducts critical examinations for India’s civil services. Ms. Chaturvedi’s vast experience is expected to bolster the commission’s role in selecting top administrative talent for the nation.

This appointment marks a fitting transition for the seasoned bureaucrat, reinforcing the UPSC’s mandate of merit-based governance.
