The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has appointed 2014-batch Gujarat-cadre IAS officer Baranwal Varunkumar Jagdish as Private Secretary (PS) to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his assignment for a term of five years, effective until August 19, 2029, or until further orders—whichever comes earlier. His tenure will be co-terminus with the Minister’s term.
Jagdish, who has been serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Minister since August 19, 2024 (as per a DoPT order dated August 10, 2024), will now transition to the PS role. His earlier assignment as OSD has been cut short to facilitate this promotion.
In his new capacity, he will function at the Deputy Secretary level, supporting Minister Goyal in critical matters pertaining to commerce and industry.
