The Inclusion After Two-Year Legal Stalemate; Final Interviews on July 23–24
In a key administrative breakthrough, Rajasthan is preparing to promote eight officers from various state services to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre, following the resolution of a two-year legal impasse. The long-standing court case had previously stalled the elevation of non-Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) officers through promotional channels. With the legal barrier now cleared, the state has moved swiftly to resume the selection process.
Final Stage of Selection Underway
Out of 55 applicants across diverse departments, the state government has shortlisted 20 eligible officers based on service records and criteria. These names have been forwarded to the Central Selection Committee for consideration.

Background and Legal Clearance
The promotions had remained suspended for two years due to judicial proceedings that challenged eligibility norms for non-RAS officers. With the case now closed, the Personnel Department has fast-tracked the shortlisting and scheduled interviews.
A senior official stated, “The promotion process for non-RAS officers has resumed after a long delay. Interviews will be held this month, and final orders will follow shortly.”
Implications for Governance
This move is expected to infuse the IAS cadre with diverse expertise, as the selected officers represent a range of sectors including health, transport, agriculture, and statistics. Their inclusion is likely to enhance administrative responsiveness and policy implementation across Rajasthan.
