Technological Modernization, Cyber Crime Strategy, and Personnel Welfare Top His Agenda

IPS officer Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a veteran with a distinguished career including his recent tenure at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi, has formally taken charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) in Rajasthan. Appointed by the Bhajanlal Sharma-led government, Sharma belongs to the 1990 batch of the Rajasthan cadre and assumes office with a reform-driven agenda aimed at transforming policing in the state.

A Model for Indian Policing

In his first public address after taking charge, DGP Sharma expressed his aspiration to turn Rajasthan Police into a national model.

“I want people to look at Rajasthan Police and say — this is how policing should be done in India,” he said.

His vision emphasizes accessible justice and empathetic policing at the grassroots level. Sharma announced plans to engage with officers at all levels to design a roadmap focused on community trust, transparency, and responsiveness.

Combatting Cyber Crime with Smart Policing

Acknowledging the growing threat posed by cybercriminals, DGP Sharma underscored the need for tech-enabled law enforcement:

“Cybercriminals are using advanced tools — we must respond with smarter systems and trained personnel.”

Plans are underway to upgrade digital capabilities across departments, introduce AI-based crime mapping, and roll out specialized training in cyber forensics and digital investigation.

Focus on Police Welfare and Morale

Sharma also highlighted police welfare as a central priority. He advocated for improved housing facilities, better educational opportunities for officers’ children, and expanded access to competitive exams.

“These shouldn’t be privileges—they must become the norm,” he emphasized.

Future welfare schemes will likely incorporate support for mental health and work-life balance, especially given the high-pressure nature of police work.

Delhi Experience Comes to Rajasthan

The Bhajanlal government’s selection of Sharma is viewed as a strategic decision, leveraging his extensive experience in Delhi Police and the CBI. His reputation for integrity, innovation, and administrative discipline is expected to contribute significantly to Rajasthan’s law enforcement reform.

During his initial interaction with the force, Sharma encouraged officers to adopt a solution-oriented approach and actively engage with communities.

Key Priorities of DGP Rajeev Sharma

Position Rajasthan Police as a national model

Ensure respectful and responsive citizen experience

Modernize policing with advanced digital tools

Champion police personnel welfare, housing, and education

Promote transparency, sensitivity, and swift action
