Mr. Vipul Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as Special Director General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He is now poised to return to his parent cadre in what could be a key development for the state’s police leadership.

According to sources, Mr. Kumar is expected to be relieved from central deputation by the end of May. His return comes at a crucial time, with the current Director General of Police, Mr. Prashant Kumar (a 1990-batch IPS officer), scheduled to retire on May 31.

The timing of Mr. Vipul Kumar’s return has generated significant buzz within Uttar Pradesh’s administrative and police circles, with many viewing it as a possible precursor to a leadership transition. His name is now being prominently discussed as a strong contender for the DGP post.

However, the final decision lies with the state government, which is expected to announce the new DGP in the coming weeks.
