Punjab SEC Appoints IPS Harpreet Singh Jaggi as Police Observer for Ferozepur-Fazilka Civic Polls 2026

The Punjab State Election Commission has appointed Harpreet Singh Jaggi as Police Observer for the Ferozepur-Fazilka Range ahead of the upcoming Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat Elections 2026 in Punjab.

Harpreet Singh Jaggi, a 2012-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Punjab cadre, is currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.

Officials said the appointment has been made to strengthen election-related security arrangements and ensure peaceful, transparent and fair conduct of the civic body polls in the region.

DIG Jaggi to Oversee Law and Order During Civic Polls

As Police Observer, Harpreet Singh Jaggi will supervise law-and-order management, election security coordination and policing arrangements across the Ferozepur-Fazilka Range during the municipal elections.

Election authorities stated that the observer’s role would include monitoring police preparedness, reviewing security deployment and ensuring that polling takes place in a free and impartial environment.

Officials added that the appointment forms part of the Punjab State Election Commission’s broader efforts to maintain public confidence and prevent any disruption during the electoral process.

Public Asked to Report Election Violations

The Police Observer appealed to citizens to participate in the democratic process without fear or pressure and urged voters not to succumb to intimidation, inducement or unlawful influence during the elections.

Who Is IPS Officer Harpreet Singh Jaggi?

Harpreet Singh Jaggi is a 2012-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre who was inducted into the Indian Police Service through promotion from the Punjab Police Service (PPS).

Born on May 1, 1969, Jaggi was promoted to the IPS under the Select List of 2021. His induction into the IPS was formally notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2025 along with several other Punjab Police Service officers.

Over the course of his policing career, Jaggi has handled a range of important assignments related to vigilance, investigations and law enforcement in Punjab.

He currently serves as DIG in the Economic Offences Wing of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, where he oversees matters related to financial irregularities, corruption investigations and economic offences.

Officials said he was also elevated to the IPS Selection Grade rank within the Punjab Police administration following his induction into the service.

Punjab Intensifies Civic Poll Preparations

The appointment comes at a time when preparations are intensifying for the upcoming urban local body elections across Punjab.

Election authorities and district administrations are currently reviewing security arrangements, polling infrastructure and law-and-order preparedness to ensure smooth conduct of the municipal elections.

Officials stated that additional monitoring mechanisms, coordinated policing and deployment of senior officers are being planned in sensitive areas to maintain peace and ensure uninterrupted polling across the state.
