The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar, former Director General of the State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department, by an additional four months. The suspension will now remain in effect until August 28, 2025.
The extension was formalized through Government Order (G.O.) Rt. No. 800, issued on Monday by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, under Rule 3(8)(a) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
Sunil Kumar, a 1993 batch officer, is facing disciplinary proceedings for alleged misconduct, including multiple unauthorized foreign trips and deviations from sanctioned travel itineraries. His initial suspension was ordered on March 2, 2025, via G.O. Rt. No. 440, under Rule 3(1) of the same rules, following allegations of unapproved international travel.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has also confirmed the suspension in communication with the state, reinforcing the legal basis for the action.
A Review Committee established by the state, as per G.O. Rt. No. 1952 dated November 12, 2024, convened on April 21, 2025, to evaluate the case. Based on the severity of the allegations and the need for further inquiry, the committee recommended extending the suspension by another 120 days.
Acting on this recommendation, the government has taken steps to continue disciplinary proceedings against Sunil Kumar.
