Hyderabad: In a key step toward realizing Telangana’s ambitious urban vision, IAS officer K. Shashanka has been appointed as the inaugural Commissioner of the newly formed Future City Development Authority (FCDA). The appointment took effect on April 28, 2025, following the Authority’s official creation on March 12.

A 2013 batch IAS officer, Shashanka brings a wealth of administrative experience, having previously served as District Collector in Mahabubabad, Rangareddy, and Karimnagar. He currently holds additional responsibilities as Director of Mines and Geology and Commissioner of State Flagship Projects.

The Telangana government issued the appointment order on April 27, entrusting Shashanka with the leadership of one of the state’s most forward-looking initiatives—ushering in the implementation phase of the Future City project.
What is the Future City Project?

Conceptualized by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the Future City is envisioned as a cutting-edge hub for economic, industrial, and technological innovation. Spearheaded by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), the project spans 765.28 square kilometers and encompasses 56 revenue villages across seven mandals in the Ranga Reddy district.

Designed around modern urban planning and sustainability principles, Future City is poised to become a flagship economic corridor attracting global investment and fostering high-impact growth.
Why a Dedicated Authority?

To streamline execution and ensure focused governance, the state government established the Future City Development Authority as a specialized body to oversee planning, coordination, and delivery.

“To ensure focused development and for the purposes of achieving specific objectives like planning, coordination and supervision… there is an immediate need for a special development authority,” states the government order.

The FCDA is expected to fast-track infrastructure development, ensure regulatory clarity, and facilitate integrated project management—paving the way for Future City to emerge as a world-class urban and industrial zone.

With K. Shashanka at the helm, the initiative now moves from vision to action, reinforcing Telangana’s push toward innovation-led development.
