In a dramatic twist in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district, a few traffic policemen landed themselves in serious trouble after attempting to extort a bribe—unaware that their “victim” was a senior IPS officer in plain clothes.
The incident took place on June 14 along the Jaipur Highway, where the officer, traveling in a private vehicle without any official insignia, was stopped by traffic personnel. Citing an alleged violation, the policemen reportedly demanded a bribe to let the vehicle pass.
Identity Revealed, Officers Panic
What the officers didn’t know was that the man they were trying to extort was an IPS officer. Upon being pressured for money, the officer calmly revealed his identity, leaving the traffic cops shocked and panic-stricken. Eyewitnesses claim that the policemen even fell at his feet, pleading for forgiveness.
SP Kavendra Singh Sagar Responds Swiftly
As news of the incident spread across Bikaner, it reached Superintendent of Police Kavendra Singh Sagar, a 2015-batch IPS officer. Known for his firm stance on discipline, the SP took immediate action.
Four personnel involved—a traffic constable and three other constables—were promptly sent to police lines, pending a detailed departmental inquiry.
Corruption Concerns Resurface
The incident has once again raised concerns about corruption within the traffic police, a department often under scrutiny for alleged bribe-taking. The Bikaner Police have assured that strict internal action will follow, reinforcing the message that such misconduct will not be tolerated.
This episode serves as a stark reminder that no one is above accountability—even within the uniformed ranks.
