Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), one of India’s premier defence shipbuilding public sector enterprises, has announced the appointment of senior IAS officer Dr Vijay Namdeorao Zade as a Part-Time Official Director and Government Nominee Director on its Board. The move comes following a formal nomination by the Ministry of Defence and is expected to further strengthen the government’s representation in the strategic decision-making processes of the defence shipbuilder.
The appointment reflects the Ministry’s continued focus on ensuring strong administrative oversight and effective governance within key defence public sector undertakings that play a critical role in India’s maritime security and indigenous defence manufacturing ambitions.
Ministry of Defence Nominates Senior Bureaucrat to GRSE Board
The appointment was formalised through a nomination issued by the Ministry of Defence on June 5, 2026. GRSE subsequently informed stock exchanges about the development through a regulatory filing in compliance with disclosure requirements prescribed under SEBI regulations.
According to the company, Dr Zade has officially joined the Board as a Part-Time Official Director and Government Nominee Director. The company also confirmed that all statutory requirements related to the appointment have been completed.
GRSE stated that it has received Dr Zade’s Director Identification Number (DIN: 05142336) along with his professional credentials and other relevant documentation required for assuming board responsibilities.
The defence PSU also clarified that Dr Zade is not disqualified from holding the office of director by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or any other statutory authority. The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Change in Government Representation on the Board
The latest appointment follows the exit of Shri Dinesh Mahur, who ceased to serve as Part-Time Official Director and Government Nominee Director on the GRSE Board with effect from June 5, 2026.
