Himachal Pradesh HC has called for establishment of Police Board, Fixed Tenure for DGP, and Enhanced Accountability too.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the formation of a Police Establishment Board and recommended instituting a fixed tenure, transparent appointment, and promotion process for the Director General of Police (DGP).

In its observations during the hearing of the case Raveena vs State of Himachal Pradesh, the court emphasized the need to clearly define police accountability, separate the investigation wing from law and order duties, and ensure greater responsibility of the police force towards legal and public interests.

The court’s directive aims at bolstering institutional integrity and strengthening the overall framework for efficient and accountable policing in the state.
