IAS Amit Kumar Agrawal has been appointed as Member Secretary of Supreme Court Committee on Farmers’ Protest.

Chandigarh: Senior bureaucrat Amit Kumar Agrawal, a 2003-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre, has been appointed as the Member Secretary of the High Powered Committee set up by the Supreme Court of India to address issues related to the ongoing farmers’ protests. The appointment follows the Court’s directive in the matter of State of Haryana and Anr. vs Uday Pratap Singh and Others.

Currently serving as Commissioner & Secretary in the Departments of Development & Panchayats, Information, Public Relations, Languages and Cultural Affairs, and Foreign Cooperation in Haryana, Mr. Agrawal will take on this additional responsibility with immediate effect. He succeeds Bhupinder Singh, IAS (Retired), who previously held the post.

The committee was formed by the Supreme Court to assess and manage the impact of farmers’ protests, particularly with regard to the blockade of national highways and its implications for public order and essential service delivery. The Court aims to uphold the right to peaceful protest while ensuring that critical infrastructure and public access remain unhindered.

By appointing Mr. Agrawal, the Supreme Court is looking to strengthen the administrative capacity of the committee and facilitate more effective coordination between the government and the protesting farmers, with an emphasis on dialogue and peaceful resolution.
