In a major administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka government on Thursday transferred several senior IPS officers from the coastal belt, including the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Dakshina Kannada. The changes come in response to growing communal unrest, following two recent murders reported in the Dakshina Kannada region within a span of one month.
Key Appointments
Dr. Arun K, previously serving as SP of Udupi district, has been appointed as the new SP of Dakshina Kannada, replacing SP N. Yathish.
Anupam Agrawal, the outgoing Police Commissioner of Mangaluru City, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Economic Offences at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He will be succeeded by Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who now takes charge as the new Commissioner of Mangaluru City Police.
Meanwhile, Hariram Shankar has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police for Udupi district, filling the vacancy created by Dr. Arun K’s transfer.
Strategic Move to Reinforce Law and Order
Although the Home Department has not publicly stated the reason for the transfers, sources within the government suggest that the reshuffle is a strategic attempt to strengthen law enforcement and restore public confidence in communally sensitive areas.
The newly appointed officers are expected to assume their roles immediately as the state seeks to address the growing concerns over law and order in the coastal region.
