Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Pee Lee Ete (2008 batch, AGMUT cadre) has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Forests (DIGF) at the Shillong-based Regional Office of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The appointment is on a tenure basis under the Central Staffing Scheme of the ministry.

Hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Ete brings a rich blend of academic and field expertise in forestry, holding a Master’s degree in the subject. Over the years, Ete has served in multiple forest departments across Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Mizoram—states known for their complex ecosystems and environmental significance.

Ete’s extensive ground-level experience in managing forests and biodiversity in ecologically sensitive zones is expected to greatly benefit the ministry’s initiatives in the Northeast—a region marked by rich biodiversity and unique conservation challenges.

In this new role, Ete will be responsible for coordinating and implementing MoEFCC’s environmental and forestry policies across Northeastern states. The appointment is being seen as a strategic step to enhance the ministry’s engagement and effectiveness in the region.

The MoEFCC serves as the nodal agency of the Government of India for environmental planning and forestry governance. Its mandate includes conservation of biodiversity, forest management, pollution control, sustainable development of the Himalayan ecosystem, afforestation efforts, and the administration of protected areas across the country.

With Ete’s leadership, the ministry is expected to further strengthen its regional presence and policy execution in one of India’s most ecologically significant zones.
