In a key development within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved two important IPS appointments—one in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the other in the Border Security Force (BSF). These appointments are part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership across paramilitary forces.

Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj Elevated as IG, CISF

Senthil Avoodai Krishna Raj, a 2007 batch IPS officer from the Uttarakhand cadre, has been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG) in the CISF. He was previously serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the same force.

According to the MHA order dated June 9, 2025, his promotion is effective from the date he assumes charge and will remain valid until the end of his central deputation tenure or until further notice. (Note: The order mentions February 2, 2023, likely a typographical error—expected to refer to 2026 or later.)

Krishna Raj was among the 65 IPS officers empanelled on May 11, 2025, for IG-level posts in central agencies and departments.

Swapnil Mamgain Appointed DIG, BSF on Deputation

Swapnil Mamgain, an IPS officer of the 2011 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the BSF on deputation for a period of five years.

The appointment was confirmed via an MHA order issued on June 11, 2025, and will be effective from the date he takes charge or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

Strategic Appointments Amid Evolving Security Landscape

These appointments come at a time when the government is intensifying its focus on internal security, infrastructure protection, and border management. While CISF is entrusted with safeguarding critical installations such as airports, metro systems, and nuclear plants, the BSF plays a frontline role in guarding India’s international borders.

This leadership restructuring is aligned with broader efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure dynamic, experienced officers helm key paramilitary commands.
