Who Is G. Laxmi Priya IAS? Tamil Nadu Officer Gets Additional Charge of Mudhalvarin Mugavari

The Tamil Nadu government has assigned G. Laxmi Priya, a 2006-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, full additional charge as Special Officer of Mudhalvarin Mugavari, the state’s public grievance redressal initiative. She is currently serving as Secretary-II to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

The decision was formalised through an order issued by the Public (Special-A) Department on October 24, 2026. Under the order, Laxmi Priya will assume the additional responsibility from P. Amudha, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Department, and continue in the role until further orders.

The appointment places the responsibility for overseeing the public grievance redressal initiative with an officer already serving in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Her administrative experience spans district governance, technical education and the state government’s Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.

Who Is G. Laxmi Priya IAS?

G. Laxmi Priya is a 2006-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre who has served in several important administrative positions during her career. Her assignments have included district-level administration as well as senior responsibilities in the state government.

She was appointed Secretary-II to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in May 2026, following the formation of the new state government. Before moving to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, she served as Secretary to the Government in the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.

Her latest assignment adds another significant responsibility to her existing portfolio, placing her in charge of coordinating the administration’s public grievance redressal mechanism.

Educational Qualifications of G. Laxmi Priya

Laxmi Priya holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Arts degree from Madurai Kamaraj University. She entered the Indian Administrative Service through the civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

Her subsequent assignments have taken her across different areas of public administration, including education, social welfare and district governance.

Key Administrative Positions Held by Laxmi Priya

Over the years, Laxmi Priya has handled responsibilities in several departments and administrative establishments in Tamil Nadu. Secretary-II to the Chief Minister: Appointed to the position in May 2026, she serves in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, where she is involved in the administrative work associated with the office.

Secretary, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department: Before her current Secretariat assignment, she served as Secretary to the Government in this department, which deals with welfare and development initiatives concerning Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Commissioner of Technical Education: She has also served in the state’s technical education administration, an area concerned with technical institutions and related educational governance.

District administration

Her career includes district-level responsibilities, including a reported tenure as Collector of Ariyalur district. These assignments have given her experience in policy implementation, departmental administration and the functioning of district-level government machinery.

What Is Mudhalvarin Mugavari?

Mudhalvarin Mugavari is Tamil Nadu’s integrated public grievance redressal initiative, intended to provide citizens with a mechanism for bringing their complaints and petitions concerning government departments and public services to the attention of the administration.

The initiative seeks to coordinate the receipt, processing and forwarding of grievances to the appropriate authorities. It is designed to help ensure that public complaints are handled systematically and that action can be tracked through the administrative machinery.

The programme has also been associated with other public grievance initiatives, including Makkaludan Mudhalvar, which focuses on addressing citizens’ grievances through organised public outreach and grievance-handling mechanisms.

As Special Officer, Laxmi Priya will hold additional responsibility for the initiative’s administration and coordination. The assignment places her in a position to oversee a mechanism through which residents can raise concerns relating to government services and departmental functioning.

P. Amudha Relieved of Additional Responsibility

Before the latest administrative order, P. Amudha, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, was holding the additional charge of Special Officer, Mudhalvarin Mugavari, alongside her substantive position as Additional Chief Secretary in the Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Department.

The order dated October 24 transfers the additional responsibility to Laxmi Priya until further orders. It does not, on the information provided, indicate any change in Amudha’s substantive departmental assignment.

The change therefore concerns the allocation of responsibility for the grievance redressal initiative rather than a reported transfer from her principal post.

A New Responsibility in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat

Laxmi Priya’s appointment comes as the Tamil Nadu government continues to organise administrative responsibilities within the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and other key departments.

By placing Mudhalvarin Mugavari under the additional charge of the Secretary-II to the Chief Minister, the government has assigned the initiative to an officer already serving at the centre of the state’s executive administration.

Her experience across district administration, technical education and social welfare is relevant to the broad range of issues that may arise through public grievance channels.

Laxmi Priya will continue to hold her existing responsibilities while taking on the additional assignment. The arrangement will remain in force until the government issues further orders.

The effectiveness of the initiative will ultimately depend on the timely examination of complaints, coordination with the departments concerned and the delivery of appropriate responses to citizens. Her new role places her among the officers responsible for overseeing this important aspect of public administration in Tamil Nadu.
