Tripura Human Rights Commission Seeks DGP Report Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against SP-Rank Officer

The Tripura Human Rights Commission has sought a detailed report from the Director General of Police (DGP), Tripura, regarding serious allegations of sexual misconduct against a senior police officer holding the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).

The Commission took suo motu cognisance of media reports concerning the alleged incident and observed that accusations involving a senior police officer could adversely impact public trust and confidence in the police administration. The matter has now been formally listed for hearing on June 11, 2026.

Serious Allegations Against SP-Rank Officer

According to media reports referred to by the Commission in its order, the accused officer is a 2010-batch Tripura Police Service (TPS) officer currently serving in the rank of Superintendent of Police.

The reports alleged that the officer attempted to establish an inappropriate sexual relationship with a fellow woman police officer and later absconded following the incident.

It has further been alleged that the officer entered the woman officer’s residential quarter after her husband had left the premises and physically touched her in an alleged act amounting to outraging her modesty.

The allegations have triggered concern within official circles due to the seniority of the officer involved and the sensitive nature of the accusations.

Incident Allegedly Took Place Inside Police Residential Quarters

As per the media reports cited by the Commission, the alleged incident occurred within police residential quarters while the accused officer was reportedly on leave.

The woman officer is said to have raised an alarm following the alleged misconduct, after which nearby residents and personnel rushed to the spot. The accused officer allegedly fled the premises immediately thereafter.

The incident has generated considerable attention because it allegedly occurred within official police accommodation, raising concerns regarding workplace safety, professional conduct and institutional accountability.

Human Rights Commission Directs DGP to Submit Detailed Report

Taking serious note of the matter, the Tripura Human Rights Commission has directed the DGP, Tripura, to submit a comprehensive report detailing the facts of the case and the action taken by the police department.

The Commission has also forwarded copies of relevant newspaper reports along with its official order to the police chief for examination and necessary action.

Officials indicated that the Commission intends to closely monitor the handling of the case to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability in the investigation process.

The Commission has scheduled the matter for further hearing on June 11, 2026. By that date, the Tripura Police is expected to place its report before the Commission outlining the status of the inquiry and any departmental or legal action initiated.
