UP Government Transfers 18 IAS Officers in Major 2024 Batch Reshuffle; CSE Topper Aditya Srivastava Posted to Shahjahanpur

Uttar Pradesh Government has transferred 18 IAS officers of the 2024 batch, promoting them from Assistant Magistrate to Joint Magistrate roles across Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Azamgarh and other districts.

Yogi Government Gives 18 Young IAS Officers Major Field Responsibilities Across Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh Government has carried out a significant administrative reshuffle by transferring 18 IAS officers of the 2024 batch, assigning them new responsibilities as Joint Magistrates across multiple districts. The move marks an important transition for these young officers, who had been serving as Assistant Magistrates during their initial field training and will now take on broader district-level administrative responsibilities.

The reshuffle, ordered on August 17, 2026, spans districts across western, central, eastern and Bundelkhand regions of Uttar Pradesh, including Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Jhansi, Sultanpur, Jaunpur and Basti.

One of the most notable postings in the exercise is that of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023 topper Aditya Srivastava, who has been appointed Joint Magistrate, Shahjahanpur after serving in Moradabad as Assistant Magistrate.

The large-scale rotation reflects the state’s effort to provide young IAS officers with substantial field exposure early in their careers through frontline administrative assignments.

Aditya Srivastava Gets Shahjahanpur Posting

The headline appointment in the reshuffle involves Aditya Srivastava, the UPSC CSE 2023 All India Rank 1 holder and a 2024-batch IAS officer.

Until now, he had been serving as Assistant Magistrate (Collector), Moradabad, where he underwent district-level administrative training following his induction into the Indian Administrative Service.

Under the latest government order, he has been transferred as Joint Magistrate, Shahjahanpur, giving him a more prominent role in district administration. The posting is being seen as an important milestone in the career of one of the country’s highest-ranked recent civil service entrants.

Why Joint Magistrate Postings Matter

For newly inducted IAS officers, the transition from Assistant Magistrate to Joint Magistrate represents a significant step in administrative responsibility.

While Assistant Magistrates primarily work under supervision as part of their field training, Joint Magistrates handle wider responsibilities involving revenue administration, development programmes, public grievance redressal and coordination with multiple government departments.

The new assignments will expose these officers to real-time governance challenges while strengthening their experience in district administration.

Statewide Geographic Spread

Unlike reshuffles concentrated in a few districts, this exercise has been distributed across a broad geographical canvas.

Major destinations include:

  • Shahjahanpur
  • Gorakhpur
  • Azamgarh
  • Prayagraj
  • Lucknow
  • Jhansi
  • Sultanpur
  • Jaunpur
  • Basti
  • Ballia
  • Deoria
  • Maharajganj
  • Kushinagar
  • Mainpuri
  • Kanpur Dehat
  • Raebareli
  • Auraiya
  • Budaun

This wide distribution ensures that officers experience diverse administrative conditions ranging from urban centres to rural districts, border regions and development-focused areas.

Young Officers Step Into Larger Administrative Roles

The reshuffle represents a natural progression in the careers of these 2024-batch IAS officers.  As Joint Magistrates, they will now participate more actively in district governance, including:

  • Revenue administration
  • Development programme implementation
  • Land-related matters
  • Coordination with district officials
  • Public grievance handling
  • Law-and-order coordination
  • Field inspections and monitoring

These responsibilities provide practical administrative experience that prepares officers for future postings as Additional District Magistrates and District Magistrates.

Strengthening District Administration

The latest transfer exercise also strengthens district administrations by placing recently inducted IAS officers in operational roles across Uttar Pradesh. The movement from Assistant Magistrate assignments to Joint Magistrate postings allows officers to apply their training in real administrative situations while supporting district collectors in implementing government policies and managing local governance challenges.

For the Yogi Adityanath Government, the reshuffle represents both a routine administrative exercise and an important investment in developing the next generation of district administrators who will gain firsthand experience across some of Uttar Pradesh’s most diverse governance landscapes.
