There are a few well-known names in the state police who are expected to be the next boss of the top cops in the state.
With the current Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, Dr. Alok Mohan (IPS: 1987: KN), set to retire on May 21, 2025, speculation is mounting over his successor.
With just about two weeks remaining for the official appointment, the spotlight is on two senior IPS officers — Prashant Kumar Thakur (IPS: 1992: KN) and M.A. Saleem (IPS: 1993: KN). However, the names of K. Ramachandra Rao (IPS: 1993: KN) and Pronab Mohanty (IPS: 1994: KN) are also being considered.
Dr. Mohan took over as DGP on May 22, 2023, following the appointment of his predecessor, Praveen Sood, as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
