Five officers entrusted with new responsibilities, 2 given extension

The Central Government has assigned five senior officers with new responsibilities across various ministries and departments, while also announcing key deputation extensions and interim assignments.

Key Appointments:

  • Jinesh Mohan (IRSS: 2014) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Biotechnology for a four-year tenure.

  • Vishal Gupta (IAS: 2012: Gujarat) has been appointed as Private Secretary to the Minister for Culture & Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in the Ministry of Culture for a five-year term.

  • Kumar Rao (IAS: 2011: Karnataka) has been appointed as Secretary, Coffee Board, Bengaluru, under the Ministry of Commerce, for a period of five years.

Interim Charges:

  • Following the superannuation of Subrata Gupta (IAS: 1990: West Bengal) on May 31, 2025, the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries has been assigned to Sanjeev Chopra (IAS: 1990: Odisha) until a regular appointment is made. Chopra currently serves as Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution.

  • Vir Vikram Yadav (IAS: 1996: Odisha) has been given the additional charge of Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) until a regular appointment is made. He currently serves as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

Deputation Extensions:

  • The central deputation of Sanjay Lohia (IAS: 1994: Assam-Meghalaya), currently Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, has been extended by two years, from October 27, 2025, to October 27, 2027.

  • Juhi Verma (IDAS: 2010), currently Director in the Ministry of Home Affairs, has also received a two-year extension in central deputation, effective September 29, 2025, through September 27, 2027.

  • Yogendra Singh (IAS: 2013: Bihar) has been appointed as Private Secretary to the Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh, for a five-year term.

Repatriation:

  • Anurag Prasad (IRS-IT: 1991), currently serving as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) at Minerals & Metals Trading Corporation Ltd. (MMTC), has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre to avail promotion opportunities.
