In a key administrative move, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed two senior IPS officers—Malothu Ramulu Naik and Nishit Kumar Ujjwal—as Inspector Generals (IG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) for a tenure of five years. The appointments were officially notified by the MHA on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Malothu Ramulu Naik Appointed IG, SSB

A 1998-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, Malothu Ramulu Naik has been appointed as IG in the SSB. His tenure will be for five years from the date he assumes charge, or until further orders—whichever is earlier. Known for his extensive experience in public security and intelligence operations, Naik brings over two decades of distinguished service to his new role.

Nishit Kumar Ujjwal Also Appointed IG, SSB

Nishit Kumar Ujjwal, a 2001-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, has also been appointed as IG in the SSB under the same terms. Ujjwal has served in various high-stakes and complex operational roles, earning a reputation for his expertise in internal security management and field leadership.

Strengthening SSB’s Strategic Leadership

These appointments are part of the government’s broader effort to reinforce leadership within India’s border guarding forces. The SSB, responsible for securing the country’s frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan, plays a crucial role in national security.
