Manipur DGP Mukesh Singh Warns Armed Miscreants of Tough Action, Says Security Operations Will Continue Until Peace Is Fully Restored
Sending a strong message to armed groups and individuals involved in unlawful activities, Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh has made it clear that security operations across the state will continue without interruption until peace and stability are fully restored.
During his first official visit to Churachandpur district after taking charge as the state’s police chief, Singh said security forces remain committed to maintaining law and order and will take strict action against anyone attempting to fuel violence or disturb public peace. His remarks come at a time when Manipur continues to work through the challenges created by prolonged ethnic tensions and security concerns that have affected several parts of the state over the past few years.
Addressing reporters on Saturday, the DGP underlined the government’s determination to ensure that normalcy returns to every district and warned that no individual or group would be allowed to operate outside the framework of the law.
Strong Warning to Armed Elements
Mukesh Singh’s message was direct and unambiguous. He stated that people carrying illegal weapons or engaging in activities that threaten public safety would face immediate legal consequences.
According to the DGP, the state administration and security agencies are fully prepared to deal with any attempt to destabilize the situation. He stressed that maintaining peace remains the highest priority and that law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring developments across sensitive areas.
Singh said security personnel deployed in conflict-prone regions have been instructed to remain vigilant and respond firmly to threats. He noted that while security forces are exercising restraint and professionalism, they will not hesitate to act whenever public safety is endangered.
The police chief also emphasized that attacks on security personnel would not be tolerated. If security forces come under fire, he said, they are authorized to take necessary action in self-defence and protect both themselves and civilians in the area.
His comments reflect the continuing security challenges faced by authorities as they seek to prevent fresh incidents of violence and build confidence among communities affected by unrest.
Security Operations to Continue Across the State
A major part of the DGP’s message focused on the continuation of security operations in various parts of Manipur.
He said these operations are essential to maintaining peace and preventing the resurgence of violence. According to Singh, coordinated efforts involving the state police, central security forces, and other agencies are being carried out to identify troublemakers, recover illegal weapons, and dismantle networks involved in unlawful activities.
Officials believe sustained operations are necessary because the availability of illegal arms remains one of the biggest threats to long-term stability in the state.
The DGP indicated that security agencies will continue conducting area domination exercises, intelligence-based operations, and targeted actions against individuals involved in criminal or violent activities.
He reiterated that the objective is not merely to respond to incidents after they occur but to prevent them from happening in the first place through proactive policing and continuous vigilance.
Nearly 70 Percent of Looted Weapons Recovered
One of the most significant updates provided by Mukesh Singh related to the recovery of weapons looted during the ethnic unrest that engulfed parts of Manipur.
According to the DGP, security agencies have succeeded in recovering nearly 70 percent of the weapons that were stolen or looted during the period of violence.
The large-scale looting of arms and ammunition from police stations, security installations, and government facilities had emerged as a major concern during the unrest. The presence of such weapons in civilian hands was seen as a serious threat to public safety and a factor contributing to prolonged tensions.
Singh described the recovery drive as a critical component of the state’s peace restoration strategy.
He said security forces are continuing intensive search operations to locate and recover the remaining weapons. Authorities believe that removing illegal arms from circulation is essential to reducing the likelihood of future violence and ensuring greater public confidence in the security environment.
Officials involved in the recovery effort have reportedly been carrying out raids, intelligence-led searches, and coordinated operations across multiple districts.
The DGP noted that the work is far from over and that efforts will continue until every possible weapon is recovered and secured.
Police Intensify Monitoring of Social Media
Another area highlighted by Singh was the growing challenge posed by misinformation and inflammatory content circulating on social media platforms.
The DGP expressed concern over the role that false narratives, manipulated information, and provocative messages can play in worsening community tensions.
To address this challenge, Manipur Police have strengthened their digital surveillance capabilities and established mechanisms to closely monitor online activity.
According to Singh, a dedicated monitoring cell is actively tracking social media posts, videos, messages, and online content that could potentially incite violence or create misunderstandings among different communities.
He warned that individuals or organizations found spreading false information, rumours, or inflammatory material would face legal action.
Authorities believe that misinformation can rapidly escalate tensions in sensitive situations, making timely intervention crucial. By identifying harmful content early, police hope to prevent rumours from translating into real-world conflict.
The DGP also appealed to citizens to exercise caution while sharing information online and encouraged people to verify facts before forwarding messages on social media platforms.
High-Level Security Review in Churachandpur and Bishnupur
During his visit, Mukesh Singh held extensive discussions with senior police officers and security officials to assess the prevailing situation on the ground.
The review meetings involved district police leadership, personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces, members of the Assam Rifles, and representatives from various civil society organizations.
The discussions focused on security preparedness, community outreach efforts, intelligence gathering, law enforcement coordination, and measures aimed at strengthening public confidence.
Officials reviewed developments in both Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, which have remained important areas from a security perspective during the state’s efforts to restore peace.
The participation of civil society representatives was also seen as significant, reflecting an attempt to strengthen communication between authorities and local communities.
DGP Praises Security Forces for Recent Successes
A statement issued by the police department said the DGP appreciated the efforts of police personnel and security agencies for several recent achievements.
Among the accomplishments highlighted were major drug seizures, successful operations against armed offenders, and the recovery of illegal weapons.
The recognition comes as security agencies continue to work under challenging conditions while addressing multiple law-and-order concerns simultaneously.
Officials believe that disrupting drug trafficking networks and removing illegal weapons from circulation are crucial elements of the broader strategy to improve security and stability across Manipur.
Government Focused on Restoring Lasting Peace
Reiterating the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy, Singh said coordinated action against armed groups, criminal networks, and unlawful activities will continue for as long as necessary.
He stressed that achieving sustainable peace requires consistent efforts from security agencies, government institutions, and local communities alike.
According to the DGP, the ultimate goal is to create an environment where citizens can live without fear, businesses can operate normally, educational institutions can function uninterrupted, and communities can rebuild trust after a prolonged period of uncertainty.
As Manipur continues its journey toward recovery and reconciliation, the state’s police leadership appears determined to maintain pressure on armed elements, recover remaining illegal weapons, counter misinformation, and strengthen security mechanisms across vulnerable areas.
The message from the DGP was clear: the drive to restore peace is ongoing, and security operations will continue until lasting stability is firmly established across Manipur.
