Mitrabhanu Mahapatra & Ravi Kanta Appointed as IG and DIG in BSF

IPS officers Mitrabhanu Mahapatra & Ravi Kanta have been designated as IG and DIG in BSF.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed IPS officers Ravi Kanta and Mitrabhanu Mahapatra as the new Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG), respectively, in the Border Security Force (BSF) for a tenure of five years. Both officers belong to the Odisha cadre.

Ravi Kanta, a 1998-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Odisha’s Home Department. He previously served as the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi. After his transfer to the Home Department on July 15, 2024, he has now been assigned the role of Inspector General in the BSF.

Mitrabhanu Mahapatra, a 2010-batch IPS officer, is presently posted as DIG at the Odisha Police Headquarters in Cuttack. Earlier in his career, he served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Rourkela. His deputation to the BSF as Deputy Inspector General has been approved for a period of five years.
