Punjab Deploys Senior IAS Officers Across Districts Amid Border Tensions — Full Crisis Management Plan Unveiled

Amid escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the Punjab government has launched an extensive crisis management strategy to safeguard public safety and maintain uninterrupted essential services across the state.

The measures were announced by Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, a 1992-batch IAS officer, following a high-level review meeting held on Friday with administrative secretaries, the Director General of Police, Deputy Commissioners, Police Commissioners, and SSPs.

Senior Bureaucrats Assigned to Districts

As part of the plan, senior IAS officers have been deputed to each of Punjab’s 23 districts to oversee key public service areas such as health, electricity, water, food supplies, roads, transport, and education. These officers will also be responsible for maintaining civil-military coordination at the district level.

“All officials have been instructed to cancel any leave and remain on-site to ensure robust district-level preparedness,” Chief Secretary Sinha stated.

State Control Room Now Operational

A 24/7 State Control Room has been activated, staffed by 15 IAS and PCS officers working in shifts, alongside nodal officers from major departments. The Home Department has been designated the nodal agency to liaise with the Union Government if needed.

Additionally, the Food and Civil Supplies Department has been tasked with ensuring the continued availability of essential items and cracking down on hoarding or any attempts to create artificial shortages.

Funds and Resources Mobilized

To ensure immediate response capability, the Finance Commissioner (Revenue) has been directed to release advance funds to districts based on urgent local requirements identified during the review.
