In a significant administrative move, the Uttar Pradesh government has promoted senior IPS officer SB Shiradkar (IPS: 1993: UP) to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). The promotion order was issued on June 10, 2025, and will take effect from June 11, 2025, or from the date he assumes charge.
Shiradkar, currently posted as Additional Director General (ADG), Lucknow Zone, is a seasoned officer with over 30 years of service. He is widely respected for his leadership, operational experience, and dedication to policing in the state.
Takes Charge After Ashish Gupta’s Retirement
Shiradkar’s elevation fills the vacancy created by the voluntary retirement of Ashish Gupta (IPS: 1989: UP), who served as Director General, Rules and Manual. Gupta retired on June 10, paving the way for this leadership transition at the top level of the state police hierarchy.
The appointment is part of routine cadre management aimed at ensuring leadership continuity within the Uttar Pradesh Police.
DST Secretary Abhay Karandikar Proceeds on Leave
In a separate high-level bureaucratic development, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST), has proceeded on eight-day leave from June 11 to June 18, 2025.
During this period, Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, currently serving as Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), has been assigned additional charge of DST.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the official order on June 10, confirming the temporary allocation of responsibilities with the approval of the competent authority.
This interim arrangement ensures that the DST continues to operate without disruption, maintaining its strategic role in shaping India’s science, technology, and innovation landscape.
