Tamil Nadu Govt Transfers 17 IAS Officers in Major Bureaucratic Reshuffle; Gagandeep Singh Bedi Gets Municipal Administration, P Amudha Takes Charge of Food Department
In a major administrative reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and improving departmental coordination, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday transferred 17 IAS officers and assigned them to several strategically important departments and urban administration bodies across the state.
The large-scale bureaucratic overhaul includes significant appointments in the Greater Chennai Corporation, Municipal Administration Department, Food Department, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), Water Resources, Energy, Finance, Transport, Rural Development, and Welfare departments.
The reshuffle is being viewed as part of the state government’s broader effort to improve administrative efficiency, accelerate implementation of development projects, and strengthen governance mechanisms across urban and rural sectors.
One of the most prominent changes in the reshuffle is the appointment of G. S. Sameeran as Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation. He replaces J. Kumaragurubaran, who had served as Chennai Corporation Commissioner for nearly 22 months.
Prior to his new assignment, Sameeran was serving as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board. As Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation, he will now oversee critical aspects of civic governance in Chennai, including sanitation, urban infrastructure, public health, waste management, road maintenance, and municipal administration.
The transfer of Kumaragurubaran is considered one of the most notable changes in the latest administrative exercise, particularly given the crucial role played by the Chennai Corporation in managing urban governance challenges in the state capital.
Senior IAS officer Gagandeep Singh Bedi has been appointed Secretary to the Municipal Administration Department. He was earlier serving as Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
The Municipal Administration Department is among the state’s most important urban governance departments, overseeing municipal corporations, municipalities, urban infrastructure projects, sanitation systems, and local body administration across Tamil Nadu. Bedi’s appointment is expected to strengthen coordination between urban development agencies and civic bodies.
Another important appointment in the reshuffle is that of P. Amudha, who has been posted as Secretary to the Food Department. She was previously serving in the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
Her new role places her in charge of matters related to the public distribution system, food procurement, ration distribution, and food security administration in the state.
In a major urban planning change, A. R. Rahul Nadh has been appointed Member Secretary of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority. He replaces G. Prakash, who had held the position since June last year.
Before this appointment, Rahul Nadh was serving as Director of Environment and Climate Change. His posting to the CMDA comes at a time when Chennai is witnessing rapid urban expansion and increased focus on planned metropolitan development.
The reshuffle also includes several other significant postings across key departments:
Satyabrata Sahoo has been appointed Secretary, Water Resources Department.
M. Vallalar has been posted as Secretary, Transport Department.
Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru has been appointed Secretary, Public Works Department, with additional charge of Natural Resources.
Anil Meshram has been named Secretary, Energy Department.
K. S. Palanisamy has been posted as Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
V. Dakshinamoorthy has been appointed Secretary, Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department.
Sajjan Singh R. Chavan has been named Secretary, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department.
Prashant M. Wadnere has been appointed Secretary, Rural Development Department.
G. K. Arun Sundar Thayalan has been posted as Inspector General of Registration.
Lakshmipathy has been appointed Joint Secretary in the Finance Department.
T. Anand has been posted as Managing Director of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
M. Aarthi has been appointed Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited.
Dinesh Ponraj Oliver has been posted as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board.
The latest transfers underline the Tamil Nadu government’s continued focus on deploying experienced officers in strategically important departments dealing with civic governance, infrastructure development, urban planning, welfare administration, and public service delivery.
Officials believe the reshuffle is intended to bring renewed administrative momentum to several priority sectors while improving coordination among departments handling urban development, transport, water management, finance, and welfare programmes across the state.
