Senior IAS officer K Ramakrishna Rao has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana. Currently serving as Special Chief Secretary for Finance and Planning, Rao will take over the top post from Santhi Kumari, who is set to retire on April 30. The General Administration Department (GAD) issued the official orders on Sunday, and Rao is expected to assume charge on May 1.
In addition to his new role, Rao will continue to oversee the Finance Department as Special Chief Secretary with full additional charge.
A 1991-batch IAS officer, Rao is the third senior-most bureaucrat in Telangana. Renowned for his expertise in financial management, he has been a key figure in the preparation of 14 state Budgets and has played a crucial role in resource mobilization under both the previous BRS administration and the current Congress government.
An alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Rao also holds a master’s degree from IIT Delhi and an MBA specializing in investments. Throughout his illustrious career, he has served as Collector in Adilabad and Guntur, worked as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and collaborated with multilateral agencies during a six-year sabbatical.
