Brij M Mishra’s Deputation by 6 Months – Repatriates Rajesh Kumar from CRPF

IAS Brij Mohan Mishra’s Deputation by Six Months, Repatriates IPS Rajesh Kumar from CRPF

The Central Government has approved two significant personnel decisions involving senior officers of the AGMUT cadre, extending the central deputation of IAS officer Brij Mohan Mishra by six months and ordering the premature repatriation of IPS officer Rajesh Kumar from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Both decisions were cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) and communicated through separate orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on November 2, 2026.

While Mishra, currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, will continue in the position for an extended period before taking up a diplomatic assignment in Japan, Rajesh Kumar, who was serving as Special Director General of the CRPF, will return to his parent AGMUT cadre with immediate effect.

IAS Brij Mohan Mishra Gets Six-Month Extension in Department of Commerce

The ACC has approved the Department of Commerce’s proposal to extend the central deputation tenure of Brij Mohan Mishra (IAS: 2008: AGMUT), who is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the department. According to DoPT Order No. 27/68/2026-EO(SM-I), dated November 2, 2026, the extension will be for six months beyond November 16, 2026.

The key details of the order are:

Officer: Brij Mohan Mishra, IAS (2008: AGMUT)

Present position: Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce

Extension: Six months beyond November 16, 2026

Next assignment: Minister (Economic and Commercial), Embassy of India, Tokyo, Japan

Tenure: Until he is relieved to take up the Tokyo assignment or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The approval follows a proposal submitted by the Department of Commerce on September 17, 2026. The extension will ensure continuity in his present responsibilities until he moves to his next diplomatic assignment.

Who Is IAS Brij Mohan Mishra?

Brij Mohan Mishra is a 2008-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre. He has served in several important administrative positions at both the Central and Union Territory levels, gaining experience in policymaking, district administration, municipal governance and departmental management.

Academically, Mishra holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Udai Pratap College, Varanasi, and an MBBS degree from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. His previous assignments include:

Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce.

Director and Deputy Secretary, Department of Commerce.

Deputy Commissioner, South Delhi.

Deputy Commissioner, East Delhi.

Additional Commissioner in Delhi’s municipal administration.

Deputy Commissioner, Lohit district, Arunachal Pradesh.

Various administrative responsibilities in Arunachal Pradesh involving Finance, Civil Aviation, Mining and Taxation. His career has encompassed both field-level administration and senior policymaking responsibilities at the Centre.

His forthcoming appointment as Minister (Economic and Commercial) at the Embassy of India in Tokyo will take him into an important diplomatic role involving India’s economic and commercial engagement with Japan.

IPS Rajesh Kumar Repatriated from CRPF to AGMUT Cadre

In a separate decision, the ACC has approved the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal for the premature repatriation of Rajesh Kumar (IPS: 1995: AGMUT), who was serving as Special Director General of the CRPF.

As per DoPT Order No. 6/33/2026-EO(SM-I), dated November 2, 2026, Kumar will return to his parent AGMUT cadre with immediate effect, bringing his ongoing central deputation in the CRPF to an early conclusion. The decision follows a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs dated October 28, 2026.

Who Is IPS Rajesh Kumar?

Rajesh Kumar is a 1995-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre. He belongs to the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir cadre, which was subsequently brought under the AGMUT framework. He holds a Master of Arts degree and has extensive experience in policing, security operations and senior-level force management. Over the course of his career, Kumar has held several important positions, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and the CRPF.

His key assignments include:

Special Director General, CRPF.

Additional Director General, CRPF.

Inspector General, CRPF.

Inspector General (Operations), CRPF, Kashmir.

Inspector General, Jammu Zone.

Deputy Inspector General, North Kashmir Range, Baramulla.

Inspector General, Special Security Group (SSG), Jammu and Kashmir.

Kumar joined the CRPF on central deputation in 2018 as an Inspector General. He subsequently rose to the rank of Additional Director General and was appointed Special Director General of the force in September 2026.

Before his central assignment, he held several operational and leadership positions in Jammu and Kashmir, overseeing responsibilities across both the Jammu and Kashmir regions.

Two Distinct Personnel Decisions Approved by the ACC

The latest ACC approvals involve two different administrative decisions concerning senior AGMUT-cadre officers serving at the Centre. Mishra’s six-month extension will enable him to continue as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce until he is relieved to assume his diplomatic responsibilities in Tokyo.

In contrast, Kumar’s premature repatriation will bring his CRPF deputation to an early end, paving the way for his return to the parent cadre. Together, the orders reflect the Centre’s latest decisions on the deployment and tenure of senior civil and police service officers across key government institutions.
